A community organization producing with identity
From the Andean territory to a product with a community identity. In Sigchos, Cotopaxi, the Andean biodiversity is an opportunity to build sustainable, community-owned enterprise. Perla Andina is a community organization of 42 community members who have built a micro-enterprise producing artisanal mortiño wine, responsibly using the natural resources of their territory. Through this enterprise, the organization strengthens the local community economy, adds value to a product native to the territory, and is becoming a benchmark for artisanal production in Sigchos. With Community Evolution’s accompaniment, Perla Andina is strengthening its productive capacity and expanding its opportunities in the national market.
A community initiative that creates opportunity
Perla Andina is a model where local production becomes an economic alternative for community families: 42 community members, plus 8 occasional workers engaged in production activities. The program strengthens family income, community organization, local employment, and the preservation of traditional productive knowledge.
The loan request — USD 12,000
The organization has a consolidated product and customers in several Ecuadorian cities, but needs to strengthen its infrastructure to increase operating capacity. The requested loan will purchase a 5,000-litre wine storage silo (USD 12,000). The organization already has the physical space to install it. The silo will increase storage capacity, improve wine conservation, optimize production planning, serve new commercial orders, and expand its presence in national markets.
Expected impact
Economic: greater productive capacity, stronger community income, commercial growth. Social: direct benefit for 42 community members, local job creation, a stronger community organization. Environmental: responsible management of natural resources, sustainable practices, conservation of Sigchos’ natural heritage.

An Andean berry becomes a community product
The mortiño opportunity
The mortiño, a fruit native to Andean ecosystems, is transformed into a product with territorial identity through an artisanal process that combines community knowledge, innovation, and responsible care of the environment. The organization currently sells approximately 1,000 bottles of artisanal mortiño wine (750 ml) per month, with a commercial presence in Quito, Latacunga, and Guayaquil. That market acceptance demonstrates the product’s potential — and the opportunity to strengthen production and distribution capacity.
